New Regulations on Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Impact Lighting Products

On February 26, 2021, the European Commission issued two new directives (EU) 2021/341 and (EU) 2021/340, which respectively address the original directive (EU) 2019/2020 light source and separate control gears ecological design requirements and (EU) The 2019/2015 energy labelling requirements for light sources have been revised accordingly, which is the first major update since the release of the new version of ERP.

Taking Effect Time Table

The new ErP directive EU 2019/2020 and the energy efficiency labelling directive EU 2019/2015 will be implemented from 25 Dec, 2019 and enforced from 1 Sep, 2021, replacing the old ErP directives EC 244/2009, EC 245/2009, EU 1194/2012 and Energy label directive EU 874/2012.

Main differences between the new version ERP EU 2019/2020 directive and old version EU 1194/2012
  1. The scope of application has been increased for household appliances, furniture and other products with lights.
  2. The calculation of energy efficiency is changed from EEI index back to Ponmax, the factor of Color Rendering Index is increased, and the improved energy efficiency requirements
    • The full load power cannot exceed the allowable power: Pon ≤ Ponmax
    • Increase color rendering index factors.
    • Improved energy efficiency requirements:
The calculation of energy efficiency rating is changed from EEI index to ηTM (lm/W)
Class E The division of energy efficiency levels was changed from Class A to Class G, instead of from A++ (the most efficient) to E (the least efficient). And the previous Class A++ is only equivalent to the current Class E
  3. Increase the power consumption requirements of network control network standby;
    • Standby power Psb ≤ 0.5 W
    • Networked standby power Pnet ≤ 0.5 W
The allowable values for Psb and Pnet shall not be added together.
    • No-load power of seperate control gear Pno ≤ 0.5 W
  4. Increased the requirement of drive energy conversion efficiency
  5. Add stroboscopic test SVM and Flicker Pst LM
  6. The switching cycle test, start-up time, and warm-up time test are deleted.
  7. The number of test samples is reduced: only 10 for light sources (reduced from the original 20 samples to 10), and only 3 for drivers.
  8. The aging test is reduced from the original 6000 hours to 3600 hours: The new regulations require 3600 hours of endurance testing, of which the lighting time is 3000 hours. The test time is greatly reduced, but the requirement for the luminous flux maintenance rate is greatly improved.
New Directives implement in Benson Energy Saving Technology LED lighting
  • The standby power (Psb) and the net worked standby power (Pnet) should be within 0.5W, such as DALI, Bluetooth, all kinds of smart lighting control and lighting sensors.
  • Color Rendering Index (CRI) ≥80, those for HID with lumen less than 4klm and other intended for use in outdoor applications, industrial applications or other applications where lighting standards allow a CRI <80 should be clear writing or printing on the packaging and documentation.
  • Displacement factor of all LED lighting source provided by Benson Energy Saving Technology are over 0.9.
  • Flicker test: SVM, Pst LM for MLS only.
The stroboscopic test should be PstLM≤1 and SVM≤0.4 in all of our LED products.
  • Lumen maintenance factor for LED or OLED: the lumen maintenance factor after endurance testing, the calculation value of our products are exceeds 96,0%.
  • R9 color rendering index value >1
  • Survival Factor 100%

Our main products are T5, T8, G24, 2G11, 2G10, 2G7 and other LED light source. We are the first and leading company released the exclusive patented technology for direct retrofit LED lighting that can directly renew old fluorescent lamps.
