2022-06-16

Mercury is one of the restricted substances under RoHS directive. So far in the European Union, the use of mercury has been allowed in certain light source, such as T5 fluorescent and T8 fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamps. However, the new RoHS directives from 2023 will remove most of the exemptions for light source.

Here is the time table for the phased-out lamps of new RoHS Directive –

25th Feb. 2023
Prohibition of the placing on the EU market of all fluorescent lamps in ring form (T5, T9)

25th Feb. 2023
Prohibition of the placing on the EU market of all compact fluorescent lamps with plug-in base (CFLni)

25th August 2023
Prohibition of the placing on the EU market of all T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps

01st September 2023
Prohibition of the placing on the EU market of all Halogen lamps (G9, GY6.35, G6)

It means that above mentioned mercury contained lamps will be phased out during 2023.
